He recently revealed it "sucked" that he no longer receives film roles from major Hollywood studios.
Now Keanu Reeves, 50, has admitted that he tried out for the parts of comic book heroes Wolverine and Batman, but missed out.
"I always wanted to play Wolverine, but I didn't get that," Reeves told Moviefone.
"And they have a great Wolverine now," he said referring to Australian star Hugh Jackman.
"I always wanted to play The Dark Knight, but I didn't get that one. They've had some great Batmans. So now I'm just enjoying them as an audience."
The current big screen Batman is Ben Affleck, preceeded by Christian Bale, George Clooney, Val Kilmer and Michael Keaton.
In interview last week with Indiewire, when asked whether he was okay about work with major studios drying up, Reeves said: "No, it sucks, but it's just the way it is."
He added: "So for me, that was just not happening, but I want to keep going, making things, and telling stories."
Still, it's not all bad news.
Reeves' latest action movie John Wick exceeded expectations at the weekend, by landing the number two spot at the box office, raking in a solid $14.15 million, behind Ouija with $19.9 million.
The star is also working on another sequel to the much-loved comedy Bill & Ted.
"We're trying to do it," he revealed. "There's a script. We're trying to get the rights. We're trying to raise the money. We're trying to get a director. It's still early days."
