How you can get a real, working pair of the trainers from Back to the Future 2

Back to the Future 2, commonly recognised as the weakest film in the trilogy, nevertheless has many good things going for it - hoverboards, for instance, and the unalloyed weirdness of seeing Michael J Fox in drag playing his own daughter.

There's also the imaginative futuristic fashions - a cavalcade of lurid nonsense that the film's makers imagined people would be wearing in the future year 2015.

Among the wardrobe items in the film, none are as fondly remembered - and desired - as the Nike Mags, the self-lacing trainers worn by Marty McFly's idiot teenage son.

And now they exist in the real world - and you can be in with a chance to win a pair by paying $10 to enter a prize draw.

In a release on the Nike website the firm says: "In partnership with the Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF), Nike will provide everyone an opportunity to win one of the only pairs of the adaptive-lacing Nike Mag.

"In total, there are fewer than 100 pairs available globally through The Draw, which begins October 4, and ends October 11, 2016. The winners will be notified on October 17, 2016.

"Each ticket costs $10, and there's no limit to the number of tickets you can buy. Most importantly, 100% of the proceeds will go to the MJFF to help find a cure for Parkinson's."

Last year Nike designer Tinker Hatfield sent actor Michael J Fox the very first pair of self-lacing Nike MAGs with a letter, which Fox shared on Twitter.

"Almost 30 years ago, we embarked on a journey to create a glimpse into the future," wrote Mr Hatfield. "As the first, most celebrated wearer of the Nike Air MAG, we wanted you to be the first to receive a living pair."

The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research shared a short clip of Fox trying on the trainers on October 21 2015, the very date Marty travels forward to in the second film of the franchise.
