X Factor Australia host Luke Jacobz had viewers wondering if he had just "come out" on national TV after he asked one of the male acts to be his boyfriend.
The awkward moment occurred after contestant Cyrus Villanueva had just performed Justin Bieber's hit Boyfriend.
Jacobz, trying too hard to inject some humour, caught Villanueva off guard with the question during his post-performance interview.
"Cyrus, I have a question for you, will you be my boyfriend?" Jacobz said, drawing silence from the audience.
A perplexed Villanueva responded: "Yours?"
Viewers were just as puzzled with the question.
Fan Sam Foote took to social media to ask whether if Jacobz had just "come out" on live TV.
The attempted humour, however, was not completely lost on Chris Gordon-Walker, who tweeted: "@lukejacobz knows how to make things awkward on live tv. I laughed though."
It may not have been Jacobz best line but one of the show's judges/coaches, UK crooner James Blunt, certainly hit the right note with fans on Sunday night's episode.
He openly criticised fellow judge/coach Dannii Minogue - not once, but twice - about her song selection for her under-25 girls. He also took aim at Chris Isaak for his choice of tune.
"@JamesBlunt Well said! Tough song ...totally wrong song choice", posted Veronica Best.
It's not just Blunt's refusal to make it a coaches' love-in on the Seven Network reality show that's winning over audiences, but also his humour.
He praised the performance by red-haired Queenslander Jimmy Davis, who belted out the Doobie Brothers' Long Train Running, before panning the contestant's outfit, which included a shimmering blue jacket and sequined pants.
"That's why I am surprised to see you dressed up in spandex and sequins," Blunt said.
Jennifer Young posted that she and her hubby were "obsessed" with Blunt and Jessica reckons he's "more exciting than the actual performances" and that he was on "another level".
As far as the 12 finalists on the first live show go, Davis, Villanueva, Louise Adams and Natalie Conway showed on Sunday night they've got what it takes to win the series.
The contestants will be a little wiser about who the fans prefer on Tuesday's first elimination show.
