Transend Worldwide, New Zealand Post's international subsidiary, has won a $1.5 million contract to provide over 650 postal delivery sorting systems to Hongkong Post.
The competitive tender to supply the sorting systems was run by the Hong Kong Government Supplies Department.
All the sorting systems will be manufactured in Petone by Vision Concepts Ltd and supplied in three shipments from December through to April 2003.
Transend general manager Bruce Heesterman said the contract followed the previous sales of over 250 units to Hongkong Post over the past 18 months.
Simple adjustments to suit the height of delivery staff and the volume and size of mail being sorted had to be made to NZ Post's ergonomic, modular design which have "considerable advantages" over the wood-framed sorting cases that have been traditionally used by postal agencies worldwide.
Transend will also provide consultancy services in January and February 2003 to install the systems.
