Hawke's Bay beach house sells for nearly $1m

A five-bedroom beachfront house at Waimarama, 31km southeast of Hastings, sold for almost a million dollars at auction in Napier yesterday.

It is believed to be the highest price paid for a Waimarama property.

Spokesman Eoin Carty said bidding on the Harper Road property, featuring three bathrooms, 360-degree views and three large decks, began at $700,000 and leapt in $25,000 bids to $800,000 then $10,000 bids before selling to a Feilding buyer for $970,000.

Another Harper Road property in Waimarama was passed in at $500,000.
