Sales at discount retailer Briscoe Group rose almost 11 per cent for the three months ended July 31.
Briscoe directors said in a statement today they expected an after tax profit for the first half in line with the $9.6 million net profit for the same period last year.
Unaudited sales forthe quarter totalled $72.3 million, up 10.65 per cent on the $65.4 million sales in the year-ago period.
On a same store basis, group sales for the quarter were up 7.19 per cent on the second quarter for last year, although the gross margin was lower reflecting increased competition.
Briscoes Homeware sales rose 7.22 per cent to $51.9 million compared with the second quarter last year, and Rebel Sport sales were up 20.47 per cent at $20.4 million.
Unaudited group sales for the six months ended July rose 10 per cent to $140.9 million.
Adjusting for four fewer days in this year's first half, group sales were up 9.13 per cent for the six months.
The retailer will announce its half-year result by September 5.
