1. Easter Good Times
Competition is good for us all. This weekend you can choose from several eggciting events. Whittakers Big Egg Hunt follows a trail around the Wynyard Quarter and beyond to find giant eggs created by New Zealand artists, designers and celebrities to help raise funds for the Starship Foundation. You can also bid for them on Trade Me. Across town at Okahu Bay, Cadbury Eggstravaganza has a giant inflatable Easter maze, a paddock of games, a Candy Carnival, face painting, food and drink stalls and, of course, Cadbury Easter eggs. The Easter Bunny has hidden special eggs at shops in Onehunga Mall and Dress-Smart - finders go into the draw to win a huge Easter hamper. On Saturday the Easter Bunny will be giving away eggs.
Details: Egg Hunt, until Monday. Cadbury, Saturday and Sunday, 10am-5pm. Okahu Bay, Onehunga, until Monday.
2. Carnival capers
More choices. There's the sweet lo-fi Waipu Carnival - old-fashioned homemade delights, potted plants, quick fire raffles, white elephant, books - or the full on traditions and games of the Easter Show at the ASB Showgrounds. There's thrilling rides, an opportunity to join the Zirka Circus, art shows, daily fireworks and the best of the animal shows (plus check out Flava FM at the main stage). Rainbow's End also has giveaways, spot prize, circus and carnival folks.
Details: Waipu, Saturday 9am-2pm. Caledonian Park. Easter Show, daily until Monday, 10am - 10pm. Rainbow's End, daily until Monday, 10am-5pm.
3. Jazz hands
Waiheke International Jazz Festival is the autumn musical institution. Take the good time Jazzabouts bus around the island during the day , chill at the evening concerts and supper clubs, and work up to Sunday's Grand Finale.
Details: Until Sunday, across Waiheke Island.
4. Mooning about
Sunday night's lunar eclipse is your last chance to see one until 2018. Stardome has short shows and then you can peer through the telescopes to watch the moon turn red. The eclipse starts at 10pm and lasts until 1am.
Details: Saturday night, from 8pm. Stardome Observatory, One Tree Hill Domain.
5. Harvest time
Soljans Estate has a traditional Berba Harvest celebration, a Croatian harvest festival which dates back to the 18th century. Try grape stomping, wine tasting, winery tours, and there's also free easter eggs for the kids and kolo dancers.
Details: Until Monday, 9am-5pm. Soljans Estate Winery & Cafe.
