Village adopts longest place name in world as protest

Residents in a remote village are claiming the title for the longest place name in Britain, in a community-wide protest against a wind farm.

The village of Llanfynydd, in south Wales, will for one week be transformed into Llanhyfryddawelllehynafolybarcudprindanfygythiadtrienusyrhafnauole in a protest campaign.

The name translates as "A quiet beautiful village, a historic place with rare kite under threat from wretched blades".

Spanish-owned Gamesa Energy UK wants to site 30 turbines up to 137m high on ridges overlooking the village. Council planners meet to discuss Gamesa's application on Friday.
