Thailand bans roach

Thailand will ban the import of giant African cockroaches from next week in a bid to quell their rising popularity as exotic pets.

The Madagascar hissing cockroach will be blacklisted under the 1992 Wildlife Protection and Conservation Act.

The bugs, which can grow up to 10cm long and live for seven years, have been selling in a Bangkok market for 50 baht ($2.53) each.
