Queen tells Potter creator she loved to read as a child

The Queen had a wizard day out yesterday with Harry Potter.

And after meeting the creator of the teenage sorcerer, she told J. K. Rowling how she had loved to read as a child.

The Queen met Rowling at a publishing industry theme day, held in part to celebrate the success of the Potter books.

Publishers have hailed her global triumph - 60 million copies in scores of countries - claiming she has singlehandedly taught a whole new generation of children the joys of reading.

The Queen revealed: "I was a voracious reader when I was a child. It stood me in good stead because I read quite quickly now and I have to read a lot."

She also said the Potter books were popular with her grandchildren.
