Upset members of the public and child abuse support group members stood outside the Santa Cruz court, located south of San Francisco, with protest signs demanding the doctor remain behind bars.
The judge granted bail with conditions including Kohut surrender his passport, be under house arrest, banned from using the internet or contacting alleged victims or witnesses and undergo GPS monitoring.
Kohut faces 11 counts including sodomy of children and if convicted faces a life prison sentence. Two nurses are also accused of being involved in his child rape ring.
Numerous women, including an Australian known in court papers as JA, have come forward with horror stories about Kohut who prosecutors describe as having sexual interests with "no geographic boundaries".
Kohut allegedly encouraged JA to work in a homeless shelter or do babysitting jobs to gain access to children.
Kohut also allegedly told JA he was searching for a woman to impregnate so they could "raise their children sexually".
"The defendant then told her that if he had a daughter, he would want to impregnate her at the age of 10 and raise that child sexually as well," Moore wrote in a court filing. "He also admitted to having sexual encounters with other children in the past."
