Pirates have released three sailors, two Japanese and one Filipino, kidnapped a week ago in the busy shipping lane between Malaysia and Indonesia.
The three were abducted when pirates attacked a Japanese-registered tugboat in Malacca Strait. The rest of the tugboat's crew later arrived safely in Malaysia.
A spokesman for Japan's Foreign Ministry declined to say whether a ransom was paid.
