Before the win, the couple were set to sell their home because they could no longer afford their mortgage repayments.
After learning she had the winning ticket, the woman phoned her husband to tell him they had won thousands before revealing the extent of the win when he returned home.
"I didn't know what to do," she said.
"I wanted to tell my husband straight away but I was scared the shock of it would give him a heart attack."
Her husband was blindsided by the win, which he said would alleviate their financial worries.
"I told her not to be stupid," the husband said.
"When I rechecked the numbers I immediately realised we could afford our next mortgage payment."
The ticket was bought at St Clair Pharmacy and News in Port Kennedy.
Store owner George Salib said he was aware the couple had been trying to sell their home due to money worries and was thrilled to hear they were now millionaires.
"It couldn't have gone to a more deserving couple."
