The parents of John Sharpe, the Victoria man who has been charged with murdering his Dunedin wife and their daughter, are standing by him.
Myles and Valerie Sharpe spoke to him during a two-hour visit at Melbourne's Metropolitan Assessment Prison on Saturday.
Earlier, Mr Sharpe snr said: "We are standing by our
son - he's our son."
Sharpe is accused of murdering his wife, Anna Marie Kemp, 41, and their daughter, Gracie, 20 months, at their Mornington home south of Melbourne.
Sharpe, 37, has not been asked to plead and will reappear in court in November.
It is understood police believe Ms Kemp, who was five months pregnant, was killed by a speargun as she slept on the night of March 22, and that Gracie was killed four days later.
A chainsaw may have been used to dismember their bodies.
Victoria police last week searched rubbish dumps in the Mornington area for the bodies or the weapons.
A Melbourne court was told last week the police case against Sharpe hinged on circumstantial evidence.
After their prison visit, Sharpe's parents visited his house and packed household goods, including a TV, DVD, stereo system and paintings, into a car. They then returned to their home.
The Herald-Sun newspaper said it was believed Sharpe was their eldest child on whom they lavished expensive gifts.
The parents are well known in the Mornington area as they operated a local coffee shop for many years.
