The turnout at the local council and district health board elections across Auckland is shaping up to be slightly less than 1998 when about half of the eligible voters went to the polls.
With three days until the polls close at noon on Saturday, 32.2 per cent of Auckland City electors had cast a postal vote, compared with 34 per cent on the same day in 1998.
In Waitakere City, the vote today was 28.5 per cent compared with 31 per cent in 1998; North Shore City 25.9 per cent compared with 28 per cent in 1998; Manukau City 29.1 per cent compared with 30 per cent in 1998; Papakura district 33.7 per cent, and Franklin district 38.6 per cent.
The electoral offices of these two district councils did not have comparative figures for 1998.
Electoral officers today strongly advised people who wanted to post in their votes to do so by tomorrow and not leave it until Friday.
