A pub landlady is offering a £1,000 (NZD$2,300) reward in an effort to catch an arsonist who turned her car - and himself - into a fireball.
The Lamb Arms' Lorna King says her Crawcrook home "was only minutes from going up in flames" after a man torched her BMW 4x4 parked outside last Thursday morning.
"It was really upsetting," said Lorna, 51. "We got a phone call from the police telling us to get out of the pub by the back door as it wasn't safe.
"When we heard an explosion I thought, 'The pub's gone,' but it was the car's fuel tank - which I'd only filled up the day before - going up.
"The outside was only redone a few months ago with new paint and signs, but now there are six panes of glass shattered, the glass in the door is broken and the guttering on that side of the pub is melted."
CCTV from the pub shows a man walking up Greenside Road at around 4.40am on June 4, approach the car, pour some form of liquid on the bonnet and, in a burst of flames, set it alight. The man is then seen running away with his coat and baseball cap on fire.
