A lost British dog was reunited with its owners after a 24km, 31-hour trek that took the whippet-terrier cross across the M1, four major roads and treacherous moorland.

In a story reminiscent of 1940s film Lassie Come Home, a family who had given up Jack for dead looked outside to find the exhausted dog asleep on their doorstep.

Jack had become separated from David and Liz Cooper while walking in South Yorkshire.
