Kiwi mum takes on 100km in Hong Kong

A Kiwi mother of three has taken on 100km of mountainous Hong Kong terrain to come out on top.

Marie McNaughton, who lives in Hong Kong with her three daughters and husband, was the first woman to complete the North Face 100 Asia Pacific Series in Hong Kong, with a finish time of 15 hours, 44 minutes and 32 seconds.

Her proud father, Bob McNaughton, said his daughter, who'd finished 7th overall in the race late yesterday evening local time, had only started running five years ago.

But he said she'd already made a name for herself.

"She started running in Hong Kong and has gone from strength to strength.

"She's got the title Queen of the Hills."

Just last week his daughter had also run a similar 50km race where she'd come second.

Mr McNaughton said although his four daughters had grown up playing sports such as hockey, this endurance racing was a "new surprising twist".

He and his wife, Diane, were enormously proud of their daughter's achievement.
