Kabbah wins landmark vote in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone's President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah won an election landslide yesterday, triumphing as the man who brought peace to the impoverished West African country after a decade of bloodshed.

Results showed that the party created by rebels blamed for savage atrocities in the 1990s had failed to win even one seat in Parliament.

Crowds cheered on the streets of the capital Freetown as the results were announced and Kabbah was sworn in for five more years.
