Indian treasures sell for $14m

Five gem-encrusted Indian treasures collected by British colonial administrator Robert Clive sold for a total of almost £5 million ($14 million), said London auctioneers Christie's.

A jewelled jade flask, made for the Mughal royal court in India in the 17th century, sold for £2.9 million.

A fly whisk studded with rubies fetched £901,000 and a dagger decorated with jewelled floral sprays sold for £733,000.

Clive, a senior British general, ran India from 1765 to 1767.
