Guerrilla attack in Macedonia kills 8

Eight members of Macedonia's security forces died yesterday near the Kosovo border in the first clash since an ethnic Albanian guerrilla insurgency was quelled a month ago.

Macedonian officials said "extremists" had ambushed a patrol. While they did not name any particular group, Macedonian media pointed the finger of blame at the National Liberation Army ethnic Albanian guerrilla force.

Four Army soldiers and four police officers were killed and several more wounded after attackers opened up with machinegun and rocket fire near Vejce village in the northwest, officials said.
