LOS ANGELES (AP) Javier Garza, Illya Kuryaki & The Valderramas and Carlos Vives took the highest number of Latin Grammy nominations on Wednesday, with five nominations each.
Edgar Barrera, Andres Castro, Julio Reyes Copello, Alejandro Sanz and Caetano Veloso followed with four nods.
"To be nominated is already an accomplishment, and I want all the artists in Colombia to know that these nominations are also theirs. May we win," Vives said in a press release.
"5 nominations Latin Grammys!!! CHANCES!!! Thank you!!," tweeted Argentine duo Illya Kuryaki & The Valderramas.
The Latin Recording Academy announced Wednesday the nominations for the 14th version of the Latin Grammys, with an eclectic mix of new and established artists among a wide spectrum of musical genres.
The nominees include:
Album of the Year: "Tanto," Pablo Alboran; "Presente," Bajofondo; "Papitwo," Miguel Bose; "Lo mejor que hay en mi vida," Andres Cepeda; "En espaol," Natalie Cole; "Escultura," Guaco; "Versiones," Gian Marco; "Vida," Draco Rosa; "La musica no se toca," Sanz; and "Corazon profundo," Vives.
Best recording: "Tanto," Alboran; "Vivir mi vida," Marc Anthony; "La nave del olvido," Buika; "Lo mejor que hay en mi vida," Andres Cepeda; "Bachata rosa," Natalie Cole with Juan Luis Guerra; "Desde lejos," Santiago Cruz; "Mas y mas," Draco Rosa with Ricky Martin; "Mi marciana," Sanz; "Um abraao," Veloso; and "Volvi a nacer," Vives.
Best new artist: Gaby Moreno, A Band of Bitches, Leslie Cartaya, Eliacim, Clarice Falcao, Jesus Hidalgo, Maluma, Mojito Lite, Quattro and Milton Salcedo.
Song of the Year: "Esse cara sou eu," Roberto Carlos; "La que me gusta," Los Amigos Invisibles; "Llora," Jesse y Joy with Domm; "Lo mejor que hay en mi vida," Andres Cepeda; "Mi marciana," Alejandro Sanz; "Mi novia se esta poniendo vieja," Ricardo Arjona; "Si yo fuera tu," Gilberto Santa Rosa; "Solo el amor nos salvara," Syntek with Malu; "Um abracaco," Caetano Veloso; and "Volvi a nacer," Vives.
Receiving three nominations were: Alborn, Bajofondo, Cepeda, Cole, Piloto, Guerra Rosa, Syntek Bori Alarcon, Antonio Baglio, Tom Coyne, Sergio George and la Mala Rodriguez.
"I loved to hear my name mentioned three times," Rosa told The Associated Press after the ceremony at the Avallon Hollywood. "Definitely, I want to win," added Rosa, who had a recent battle with cancer.
Among other artists with nominations were Miguel Bose, Daddy Yankee, Gilberto Gil, GUaco, Natalia Lafourcade, Gian Marco, Pitbull, Arturo Sandoval and Gustavo Santaolalla.
The nominations marked the return of established artists such as Beto Cuevas, nominated for best pop/rock album; Albita and Guayacn for best salsa album; and Vikki Carr, nominated for best ranchera.
"I can't stop smiling. I am very pleased that the Latin public has accepted this record," said Cole about the nomination for "Natalie Cole En Espanol."
Mexican singer-songwriter Julieta Venegas, who has won five Latin Grammys, received a best contemporary vocal pop album nomination for "Los momentos."
The awards will be handed out Nov. 21 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The event will be broadcast by Univision.
