Eleven former residents of Fiji have been charged with rape in California.
The accused, aged between 16 and 22, emigrated to Sacramento, where it is claimed they raped nine women.
Law enforcement authorities say the victims, one as young as 17 and some of them prostitutes, report they were approached by
one man and then driven to another area where others would appear and gang rape them.
Guns and knives were allegedly used to force the victims to submit.
The Sacramento Bee newspaper has name those charged as: Kamal Singh, 24, Parnit Singh, 19, Rajneal Kumar, 18, Mohammed Tasleem, 16, Ravind Deo, 20, Ashminder Singh, 22, Jasmiel Kumar, 19, Nalesh Prasad, 18, Paraharat Pathak, 18, Rajnesh Narayan, 19, and Reginald Prasad, 18.
A preliminary hearing for four of the accused is now underway. All the men face life in prison if convicted.
