Bullet-proof shield for British House of Commons

The public gallery of Britain's House of Commons will be sealed off by a bullet-proof glass shield because of fears that terrorists might try to assassinate Prime Minister Tony Blair, says a report in the Sunday Times.

The shield would block access for those sitting in the so-called Strangers' Gallery, the paper said.

This month slogan-shouting protesters opposed to the Iraq war forced the chamber to be suspended for the first time in 17 years.
