Warming conditions are being blamed for the breakup of a 3000-year-old ice shelf at Ellesmere Island in northern Canada.
The breakup of the Ward Hunt ice shelf between 2000 and 2002 was reported yesterday by researchers from Canada and the United States.
Many scientists believe that ice shelf breakups are caused by global warming, though research continues to try to verify that.
