A fine day and clear skies will see the temperature plummet again tonight with fog and frost forecast for some southern parts of the country.

It was a chilly start for most of the country today and with fine weather and clear skies expected again tomorrow, much of the country was in for another chilly night.

Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago and Southland could be in for a frost or fog overnight, according to the Metservice.

Christchurch could expect a low of 2C overnight with Invercargill dropping to 5C.


In the North Island, temperatures were expected to fall to 2C overnight in Hamilton.

The low was predicted to be 8C in Auckland, 6C in Tauranga and 7C in Wellington.
