Train enthusiasts have an early opportunity in 2013 to experience the majesty of a steam train ride next week when Steam Incorporated of Paekakariki bring the vintage train through the Manawatu Gorge to the Wairarapa, with all proceeds going to the Life Flight Trust.
A Steam Incorporated spokesperson said they were delighted to offer the service.
"We're pleased to bring our train into Wairarapa once again as it offers such a lovely scenic journey. The section north of Masterton sees very few passenger trains so is always popular," he said
Interest is high but there is still a number of spare seats available for people to enjoy the short journey between Eketahuna and Masterton.
Tickets are being sold for the journeys from Masterton, with the round trip being made in one direction by steam train and the other by coach.
Passengers have two travel options. They can depart Masterton by coach to Eketahuna by coach at 1pm and return by steam train by 3.05pm, or alternatively they can get the steam train from Masterton to Eketahuna at 4.05pm and return by coach at 6pm.
The journeys are sponsored by the Wairarapa Times Age and Tranzit Tours who are handling bookings free of charge. Tickets cost $30 for an adult and $20 for a child. To book your tickets, contact Tranzit Tours, Queen St.
