The top job in what could be a multi-million-dollar iwi is soon to be filled.
Ngati Kahungunu, one of two major Wairarapa iwi, had advertised for a general manager to ''expand the role with the expected increase in business activity''.
The iwi may receive a multi-million cash and land package from the Government after a Waitangi Tribunal report last month, but the iwi's chairman Nelson Rangi said the appointment of a general manager was unrelated.
''This has been something we have been looking at for some time.''
He said a general manager was needed to deal with contracts, mostly with government departments. That was previously done by volunteers.
''I'm only giving this as an example: shall we say the Ministry of Education wants to do a programme where we went out and got kids to do certain things with a cultural effect, well, we would undertake that.''
Mr Rangi expects an announcement shortly after deliberation by the board._Daniel Simmons Ritchie
