Whether you're a Kiwi planning a trip to Australia, or an eligible traveller coming to New Zealand, from February 28 you will be able to self-isolate instead of going to MIQ.
Fortunately, those who must take a connecting flight to reach their final destination like Queenstown, Invercargill or Nelson, can self-isolate at their final destination.
According to a Covid-19 Group, Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) spokesperson, it will be important for these people to book a connecting flight that takes them to their final destination soon after arrival.
"People should make self-isolation plans that enable them to get to their self-isolation location quickly and directly," they said.
This means, you can take a domestic flight but must get to your destination as soon as possible and must take the most direct route.
While at a transit location, you must continue following self-isolation requirements and get to your final self-isolation destination as soon as possible.
For more information on where you can self-isolate, how you can travel there and what processes take place while isolating, read our explainer here.
All regulations are subject to change, so we recommend regularly checking information on covid19.govt.nz.
