Telecom New Zealand, Japanese supplier NEC and Wellington company Scollay Holdings are winding down their joint venture Telecommunications Systems Support Centre (TSSC).
The company, formed in 1982, provides Telecom with software and support for its NEC Neax 61 switches used throughout the Telecom network.
All but 18 of TSSC's 104 staff willbe absorbed by NEC New Zealand which was set up here in May and expects revenues of $32 million this year through sales and servicing of the NEC switches and the development of telecoms software for the local market. TSSC's revenue in the last financial year was $13.3 million.
Ten TSSC staff have been made redundant, and eight are going to the Wellington office of Australian software company Open Telecommunications, which is acquiring TSSC's non-NEC work.
