Thanks to the South Taranaki District Council management and pool staff on their understanding of providing the required time and facilities for progressive swimming squads. Visiting squads are making extensive use of the 50m pool to prepare them for the National Age Group Swimming Championsips to be held in the
next two months.
The Mountain Motors Flyers Stratford Swim Squad held its five day camp at the pool between Christmas and New Year in preparation to competing at the Victoria State Champs in Melbourne, Australia, starting January 11.
Coach Clive Wheeler expressed the squads appreciation to the staff and council on the way the pool was set up for each training session.
The squad gained access to the pool in a time to enable them a full two hours training and in particular available on public holidays out of normal pool hours and four lanes 4pm to 6pm each afternoon. The squad has been using the indoor pool on Saturdays, since June due to circumstances at their home pool.
During the week, the Flyers were joined by team Aquablades from Bell Block for one morning session, which saw 60 swimmers in the seven lanes followed by a joint barbecue.
This is not a one off as Clive recommended the facility to Andrew Nicol, Kiwi West, whose 40 swimmers start their training camp on January 23.
To further promote the pool Clive and a member of Swim New Zealand approached the council to hold a two session Tri Series meet for a team of 82 of the top age group swimmers in New Zealand on Monday January 28. Competing as three teams one of which Clive is head coach. The council obliged with a reply of "and how can we help promote this event," well received by Swim New Zealand.
A great opportunity for the public to see our top age group swimmers in action.
