A talented young organist will be offering Stratford people a chance to hear his playing at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church this Saturday afternoon.
Simon Mace, an inaugural organ scholar with Taranaki Cathedral Church of St Mary, will be coming from New Plymouth to perform a selection of works.
Simon joins a
line-up for a special concert.
Soprano Cecily Shaw and The Cathedral Chamber Choir will be singing, and the concert is directed by Michael Cox, organist and Director of Music at the Cathedral, and he will also be playing.
Vocal works will be by Franz Schubert, Orlando Gibbons and Cole Porter.
Choral music will be by Gabriel Faure, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Orlando Gibbons and L J White.
Organ works will be by 18th Century English composers – Henry Purcell, J S Bach, Vierne and Dubois.
During the concert Simon will give a 45 minute programme of organ works he is preparing for a European study trip.
The 19-year-old has only been playing organ for 18 months, although he has played piano for over 10 years.
He heads to England and Europe in a week to advance his studies.
He has received a bursary to attend the premier Oundle academy for organists, where he will join the best of young students from Europe..
Then he will travel to learn different playing styles and experience playing European pipe organs.
He plans to attend university next year to further study organ playing at a higher level.
The concert commences at 2pm. Admission, at the door, will be $15 and $10 students/senior citizens. Afternoon tea will follow.
