Rhonda Bunyan is this month's recipient of Bouquet of the Month.
After nearly 20 years in the newspaper industry and nine years at the Stratford Press - the past three as manager, Rhonda is saying farewell to the community paper she has helped build and grow.
Nominated by the team at the
Press, staff members felt this was a deserving tribute to someone who has given everything to help make the small rural paper a leader in the community and region.
Over the years, Rhonda's generous personality has shone through by helping community groups and locals advertise their fundraisers, community projects and needs for little or no cost.
Not only has Rhonda helped fight and support local issues and projects, she has helped all the staff grow and achieve their full potential.
"Over the past five years, Rhonda's guidance, support and vast knowledge have helped me grow as the paper's Editor and made me believe that I am capable of more," said Stratford Press Editor Jessica Ranginui.
"Her individuality and unique way of teaching and supporting is a great asset and will always be cherished as she is an unbelievable mentor and friend." In April 2006, the Stratford Press, owned by Rhonda and Bugs Bunyan and Stephen and Carey Coleman, was sold to APN New Zealand. Rhonda took the challenge and stayed on as Manager to help the transition of ownership and then later location from Broadway to Miranda House.
"Rhonda deserves the Bouquet of the Month for making our team at the Press and holding it together. She is also a very caring and fair boss and I've loved every minute working for her," said Subeditor Gail Webb.
As of April 1, Stratford Press Sales Consultant Sarah Dazley will be taking over from Rhonda.
Sarah and Monique Keegan were both given the opportunity to work at the Press by Rhonda in sales at the start of 2003 and they said:
"We've shared plenty of laughs with Rhonda (and a few tears) over the past few years. Her loyalty, compassion and humour has never wavered and we hope she'll miss us as much as we will miss her around the office."
Office Manager Kate Payne said Rhonda deserves the Bouquet of the Month because she is a free spirit.
"Rhonda follows her own path, but is always concerned about others. She has a wealth of experience in all areas of life and she is willing to share her knowledge and give meaningful advice when required."
We will all miss you Rhonda!
