Stratford Camera Club members will be showcasing their work in an exhibition called Local Lenses at the Village Gallery in Eltham.

Sue Morton, president of the Camera Club, says they have members from New Plymouth and other parts of Taranaki and she is looking forward to showcasing their work in Eltham.

"I think it is great. It is a good chance to promote the camera club members and show off their photos. There is a huge variety of skills. I hope people take the opportunity to come look."

While the exhibition opens on May 6, a formal opening is on Saturday, May 11.

"We will begin with a shared finger food lunch at noon, followed by a guest speaker and then a practical photography session."

Sue says the session includes a walk around Eltham, where Camera Club members will help with camera settings and practical advice on composition of streetscapes and architectural details.

During the exhibition, Sue will hold two Photoshop workshops at the Village Gallery.

Sue has been a member of the club for 10 years and says the club gives members an opportunity to share their work with fellow enthusiasts and receive feedback.

"Each member may submit up to four digital images into three sections: nature, set subject and open. A member can only put two images in the same section. These are then critiqued by an assessor who grades the work and outlines strengths and possible improvements for the future."

Sue says this feedback allows for growth and learning in a friendly social environment.

"There is also an opportunity for non-competitive entries which will be generally discussed. Meetings with like-minded enthusiasts is a great way to inspire and encourage individuals."
