Annette Dudley says creating wedding cakes is one of her favourite parts of her business - A Love of Cakes - by Annette.

She was delighted to have been named winner of the cakes and catering award at the second annual Taranaki Wedding Industry Awards held earlier this month.

"I love working with couples to help turn their creative dreams into reality when it comes to the perfect wedding cake to capture their style."

"Given the quality of the other nominees, winning is a real honour."

Last year, Annette came runner up in the category, but says this didn't mean she felt any more confident of success this year.

"There are so many great businesses around, plus the category was not just for cakes, but also catering overall, so there was a lot of competition.

"I am so grateful to all who nominated and then voted for me."

Annette says nominations for the award have to come from brides and grooms who have used their service, with the public then voting for the winners.

"So I am lucky not just to have been nominated, but to have so many people who are fans of my work, who follow my Facebook page, who then put the effort in to vote for me."

Annette says the awards night is important to people in the industry.

"It gives us a chance to see how we measure up against others in the same business, and inspires us to continue with what we love doing."

She encourages brides and grooms to remember the awards and nominate the people in the industry who helped make their special day a reality next year as well.

"So many people work really hard to help create a special day for the bride and groom. From event organisers, florists, photographers, celebrants, the dress and the cake, there is a whole team of people who are passionate about what they do working behind the scenes to make every bride's day as special as possible."
