A GARDEN Safari is the Percy Thompson Gallery's timely new exhibition, opening this Saturday, October 9, to celebrate spring and the region's garden festivals.
It is a vibrant exhibition by New Zealand and Australian artists exploring multiple facets of gardens and beyond.
Garden Safari promises to be a journey of the five
senses, including tactile works by a blind artist.
On opening night guests will be treated to live garden music by Wellington musicians flautist Mary Hubble and harpist Celia Briar. They have been musical collaborators for over 15 years as well as each being an accomplished folk musician in her own right.
At the opening, guests will also sample an array of floral food, and be delighted by floral fragrances.
This exhibition includes work from Megan Harvey, Sarah Battersby (Perth) Annette Baxendell, Christine Boswijk, Aisling Bourne, Peter Brown, Laurel Davis, Raphael De Armas, Susanne De Folefort, Margaret Foley, Jenny Gillies, Peter Hackett, Niki Hastings–McFall, Daniella Hulme, Janet Marshall, Rachell Jones, Kumiko Kawamoto, Catherine Lawes, Corinne Lidgard, Caryl Murray, Svetlana Orinko, Lisa Sarah, Susan Skelton, Maxine Sutherland, Jim Wheeler, Phillipa Knight, Janet Smith, Niko Thomsen, Pauline Harper, Brit Bunkley, Andrea Gardiner, Rita Dibert, Julie Greig, Terrie Reddish, Cecily Bull, Penelope Barnhill, Lisa Sarah, and works by Philip Trusttum, Gretchen Albrecht, Joan Grehan, Simon Ogden, Paul Rayner, Raewyn Johnson from WHMilbanks Collection in Wanganui.
Works are in a variety of interesting mediums including bronze sculpture, pottery, digital media, photography, acrylic, oil, weaving, textile, fabric art, light box and others. It will provide an intriguing combination for viewers to study and ponder over.
A minimum $5 donation will be let you through the door and help cover costs of the musicians who are travelling from Wellington. Three local businesses – Cottage Lane, Colour Plus and Eve's Garden Galley are joining forces to produce a display in the Community Gallery around the garden theme.
