JP Tobin looks to be winning the battle with Olympic champ Tom Ashley for the New Zealand's mens windsurfing spot at next year's Olympics.
Tobin has had the better of Ashley over the past year and now leads his rival at the World Champs in Perth.
A second and a third have propelled Tobin from 12th to seventh while Ashley has slipped from fifth to 12th.
There are two races remaining before the medal race.
New Zealand looks set to qualify nine classes for the Olympics from the World Sailing champs.
