A broken surfboard did not prevent world champion Andy Irons from beating Australia's Phil MacDonald in the final of the Quiksilver Pro at Hossegor, France.
Irons broke his board during the final minutes, but it made little difference as he claimed his fourth world championship tournament title of the year inemphatic fashion.
The Hawaiian collected US$30,000 ($50,774) for his efforts and increased his lead on the overall standings to more than 700 points over his nearest rival, American Kelly Slater.
