The Football Kingz' off-field troubles continue, with Australian midfield star Dino Mennillo saying he is off to play for top-of-the-table Wollongong Wolves.
But Kingz chairman Chris Turner is adamant: "He isn't going anywhere."
Mennillo was one of 17 players who served default notices on the club more than a week
ago as they awaited payment of bonuses, superannuation and other monies.
The 24-year-old, who transferred to the Kingz from Adelaide, sent the club a fax yesterday confirming the termination of his contract.
"I have cleared things with the players' union," said Mennillo. "It is not a decision I'm happy about but it was one I felt I had to make. The club has problems and I sympathise with them but I have to consider my future.
"I agreed with the players when they put in the default notices, but what would have been the point if you weren't going to follow it up by taking some action?"
Players' union boss Brendan Schwab said he was advising players on their rights and procedures to be followed.
Mennillo missed Saturday night's away loss to Brisbane through suspension, but scored twice in the 4-1 win over Perth Glory three days earlier to take his tally to four, one behind leading scorer Fred de Jong.
Turner was adamant that Mennillo would not be playing for Wollongong this weekend.
"He is under contract to the Kingz, simple as that," said Turner. "We expect him to honour that contract. The players' wages have been paid, and bonuses when they are due. Dino Mennillo is not owed a cent.
"We have heard nothing from Wollongong. If they contacted the player direct they would be in breach. One way or other they would have to offer us a transfer fee."
Kingz coach Wynton Rufer's attitude is that it is "water off a duck's back."
"If the guy wants to go, let him go. Everyone in football is replaceable."
