A lightning strike killed former Colombian soccer international Hermam Gaviria as he practised with his Deportivo Cali team in Bogota yesterday.
Gaviria, 32, played for the national side in the 1994 World Cup and two years earlier at the Barcelona Olympics.
Fellow players tried to revive him before he was rushed to Valle de Lili hospital, where he died.
Doctors said Giovany Codoba, one of four other injured players, was in a critical condition after suffering three heart attacks as the result of the lightning strike.
