CAPE TOWN - The Bulls scored a bonus point try after the siren sounded to complete a 38-27 victory over the New South Wales Waratahs in Pretoria this morning.
The try denied the Australian side a bonus point of their own for losing by fewer than seven points, allowing the Bullsto leapfrog their opponents to the top of the Super 12 standings after two of the round five matches.
Replacement loose forward Danie Rossouw scored the late try from close range after the Waratahs had lost possession as they attempted to run the ball from their own goal-line in a bid to claim victory.
The Waratahs scored the only try of the first half through centre Morgan Turinui to lead 10-6 at halftime but then the absence of sinbinned looseforward Rocky Elsom began to count.
He was dismissed for entering a ruck from the side late in the first half and while he was off the field the South African side scored 11 points through a try by wing Odwa Ndungane and two Derick Hougaard penalties.
Further tries followed for replacement prop Christo Bezuidenhout and wing Eddie Fredericks. Hougaard converted both and kicked a penalty.
Ben Jacobs and Lote Tuqiri hit back with late tries for the Waratahs to leave the sides separated by just four points before Rossouw's late effort.
