Rugby: Free Eden Park entry for Auckland v Canterbury Mitre 10 Cup final

In an unprecedented move, entry to the Auckland v Canterbury provincial rugby final at Eden Park next Saturday will be free.

The Mitre 10 Cup Premiership match, which is at the earlier than scheduled time of 4.05pm because the All Blacks play Australia in Yokohama at 7pm, is hoped to attract a big crowd.

Auckland made the final beating Wellington 38-17 in their semifinal today while Canterbury got there by upsetting neighbour Tasman 21-16 on Friday night.

The Canterbury-Auckland rivalry has been fierce over the years and next Saturday is sure to be no exception.

In a statement, Auckland Rugby said that allowing the supporters of rugby in Auckland to enjoy such a spectacle without any obstacles was unprecedented, and one AR and Eden Park felt is worthy of celebration.

"Our supporters have backed us through thick and thin. This is a chance to celebrate our
fans and we're looking forward to enjoying with them an experience to support finals rugby," said Auckland Rugby CEO Jarrod Bear.

"Our relationship with Eden Park has allowed us to continue to strengthen our connection to the Auckland community through this unique opportunity."

Eden Park CEO Nick Sautner was also excited about welcoming the community to the spiritual home of rugby in New Zealand, where for some it will be a new experience, and for others, a chance to add to their memories at the park.
