Wellington will again host the New Zealand leg of the IRB Sevens, the International Rugby Board has confirmed.
According to the full schedule for the IRB Sevens championship released today, the Wellington event will be held on February 6-7 at Westpac Stadium with 16 teams expected.
Los Angeles, on the circuit forthe first time, will host the next leg the folloowing week.
New Zealand Rugby Union deputy chief executive Steve Tew said Wellington would host the New Zealand tournament for the next three years.
"The Wellington Rugby Union runs a great event and we think it's the best sevens tournament in the world.
"It's not just the rugby which makes it so special but also the entertainment and party atmosphere," he said.
Tournament director Steve Dunbar said it was exciting news for the fans that Wellington would again host the New Zealand International Sevens.
The Wellington Rugby Union, as organisers of the event, would continue to "raise the bar".
"Everyone involved - from the players and fans through to the sponsors and officials - enjoys the event and we will continue to ensure that Wellington remains the premier Sevens tournament on the IRB Sevens circuit," he said.
The New Zealand sevens team are the current IRB Sevens titleholdersand will open the defence of their title at the Dubai Tournament on December 3-5.
