“I wouldn’t have been able to perform the way I did without my team,” Nicholls said while accepting the award.
“We did start a little bit slow but we were able to pick up at the end of it. Our girls did well and really proud of them.”
Coach Ricky Henry acknowledged France as worthy opponents that provided the side with plenty to think about after a tough lead-up for the squad that saw a fire damage training gear and personal belongings during the week.
“Give credit to the French team, they really came out and put it on us. We just had to be patient there and hopefully get back into the game.
“We can take a lot out of it. I think travelling here, 30 hours, we’ve had a fair bit of adversity the last week or so, so really pleased with the efforts of the ladies but I know we’ll get better too. We’ve got a lot of improvement in us.”
Next up for the Kiwi Ferns is a matchup with the Cook Islands on Monday morning.
