Newstalk ZB's Tony Veitch hosts 'The Vent', which talks all the sporting issues, wrapping the latest news, with plenty of opinion and humour. Joining him today is Michael Guerin and Eric Young.
In this week's episode of the Vent, Tony is joined by Michael Guerin and Eric Young to discuss the key sporting issues from the weekend including NRL's proposal to play four quarters, whether Joe Parker is the real deal and the return of the bouncer.
Four quarters in NRL? Eric Young:Madness. And this is a sport that flirts with madness on an annual basis. It brings the big guys back into the game doesn't it? Michael Guerin: So every sport in the world is trying to shorten up and they're trying to lengthen their game?
Eric: One of the reasons the All Blacks is winning every test at the moment is that they burn everyone off in the last 10 minutes. If rugby was four quarters that wouldn't happen.
Is Joseph Parker the real deal? Eric: I agree with Bob Jones on this one. I think Joseph Parker is still too young, still too unproven and the guy he beat on Saturday night, let's be honest, was on a bit of a holiday. Michael: He's 22 years-old, he doesn't need to be the real deal for another three years. Let him take him time.
The bouncer? Tony Veitch: Tomorrow the bouncer must return in Adelaide. Go short, go fast and go at the heads. Eric: My argument would be maybe not tomorrow but certainly in this test.
