Former Kiwi rugby league player Gary Mercer has been appointed as assistant to Graham Steadman at English club side Castleford.
Mercer, 35, was player-coach at Halifax until March, moving on to Warrington as a player. He reportedly rejected a rugby union offer to join the backroom staff at Super Leagueclub Castleford.
Mercer, who has played for Leeds, Warrington, Bradford and Halifax, is expected to play his last match on October 23, for Leeds against Australia.
