Chris Anderson was yesterday appointed coach of the Kangaroos for a fifth season by the Australian Rugby League board.
The Australian team strongly supported Anderson's bid to keep the role, but Queensland Rugby League chief executive Ross Livermore was against the decision.
Livermore had pushed for a coach not involved with an NRL team to take over the side.
Cronulla coach Anderson has been at the helm of the Kangaroos since taking over from Wayne Bennett in 1999.
The 2003 Australian campaign will see tests against New Zealand and a planned five-match tour of Britain.
