SYDNEY - Punters won't get a chance to back Sunline at tonight's Australian Champion Racehorse Awards in Melbourne because the New Zealand mare is at shorter odds to win than in any race.
Sydney bookmaker Colin Tidy said he wouldn't frame a market as Sunline would be unbackable to win thecoveted Horse of the Year award for the second consecutive year along with up to four other awards.
"I think she should win five awards on the night," Tidy told the Daily Telegraph. .
"She must be the Champion Middle Distance horse because of her seven-length Cox Plate win and she is clearly the best of her sex in this part of the world, so the filly/mare category is a foregone conclusion.
"The punters love her, so I can't see anything beating her for Most Popular Racehorse either."
Tidy said the only award which could be contentious was the Champion Sprinter because of the achievements of Falvelon. But he still felt the vote should go Sunline's way.
This category is restricted to performances in races of no further than 1400m.
Sunline has not been beaten over a sprint since Adam edged her out in the Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill two years ago.
"I don't think any bookmaker in their right mind would offer better than even money at best about Sunline winning all five awards," Tidy said.
Sunline will join Might And Power (1997-98, 1998-99) as the only dual winners of Australia's Horse of the Year.
