Racing: Speed needed for Billy Quin

Cambridge trainer Don Sellwood doesn't want to start his exciting sprinter Billy Quin at Pukekohe tomorrow, but thinks he'll have to.

Billy Quin was one of the most promising horses to emerge last autumn and he has looked sharp in winning two trials so far this season. But he has drawn the outside gate for the listed Karcher Classic, run from Pukekohe's very tricky 1100m start.

"It's far from ideal," said Sellwood.

"But we're coming up to Christmas so he really needs to be running to be ready for that. Hopefully there will be some speed inside him and Mark Sweeney can find a place for him."

Sellwood's other runner at Pukekohe will be Final Leica in the premier-quality 2200m race.
