Ron Norman finally has a gold cup in his hands, continuing the traditions of a dynasty.
The retired Lower Hutt builder admitted his relaxed demeanour masked one of the great days of his life.
His ancestors on his mother's side, the Nyhan family, have a rich history of winning
the country's greatest trotting races.
Their victories date back to the Auckland Trotting Cup in 1909.
"Now it's my turn to hold a gold cup and it feels just great."
Norman has two sons, a daughter-in-law and two grandchildren in Canada.
"They watched the race on the internet, and I reckon I can hear the screaming from Vancouver right now."
